The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Entitlement Program provides annual grants on a formula basis to entitled cities and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The program is authorized under Title of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Public Law 93-383, as amended; 42 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Carson City, an entitlement grantee, Carson City is an entitlement grantee, $353,923 to fund city departmental and nonprofit projects that meet one or more of the three national objectives: providing benefit to low-income households or persons, elimination of slums and blight, or meeting urgent community development need.
Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent for CDBG projects taking place July1, 2024 – June 30, 2025. The City is specifically seeking projects correlating with the City’s FY 2023-2028 Consolidated Plan, approved on August 3, 2023. Eligible projects include:
- Construction of ADA compliant sidewalks
- Improving access to public facilities
- Providing supportive services for low- to moderate- income households
- Reducing blight in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods and/or code enforcement
- Providing mental health and/or substance abuse services
Funding requests need to be a minimum of $10,000, and the project must benefit 51% or more low- to moderate- income persons.
